This is a massive match for both Man Utd and Everton, who have very different aspirations as we approach the business end of the season — and you can watch it from anywhere

Man Utd XI: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Evans, Lindelof; Mainoo, Casemiro; McTominay, Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford.

Everton XI: Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Onana, Garner, McNeil; Doucoure; Beto.

After a 3-1 loss to Man City last weekend, Man Utd are up against it in their bid for Champions League soccer next season. A fifth-place finish might be sufficient to book a place in the soon-to-be expanded tournament, but Erik ten Hag's team are six points behind Tottenham, who have a game in hand.

Man Utd must improve their performance levels as well as their results. Only six sides have scored fewer goals this term, so Everton's solid defense will be confident of making life difficult for the opposition attack this weekend.

Sean Dyche's side recently frustrated Man City at the Etihad Stadium and they will be looking to do the same here. Remarkably, Man Utd have the second-worst first-half home record in the EPL.

A man was arrested during the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on suspicion of tragedy chanting.

Greater Manchester Police reportedly released the man on bail on Monday after the incident during City’s 3-1 win over United on Sunday.

Pictures widely spread on social media showed a man making an airplane gesture, seemingly mocking the Munich air disaster of 1958 in which 23 people — including eight Manchester United players — were killed.

The police force said “officers arrested a man on suspicion of tragedy chanting” following reports made in the crowd.

Premier League clubs agreed last year to measures for tackling the rise in tragedy-related chanting at matches, with criminal prosecution of offenders a principal aim.

A bitter and well-deserved 2-1 home loss to Fulham was followed by a sobbing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the derby, a result that somewhat flattered Erik ten Hag's side given the Citizen's utter dominance.

The one-sided derby dashed United's hopes of finishing in the top four, and anything less than three points against the Toffees would almost certainly be the end of their Champions League prospects.

Everton have also had a difficult time lately, even though their points deduction has been reduced from 10 to 6 after they slumped to a late 3-1 defeat to West Ham United last time out.

Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Jonny Evans are all fitness doubts for Manchester United ahead of the visit of Everton.

Rashford, who scored with a thundering strike last time out, was forced off after 70 minutes of the derby and Erik ten Hag said afterwards that the striker has "had his problems with an injury."

Elsewhere, Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia are all some weeks away from returning. Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial are longer-term absentees.

Everton hope to welcome Idrissa Gueye back from injury, but Dele Alli, Andre Gomes, and Arnaut Danjuma remain sidelined through injuries, while Lewis Dobbin is also a doubt due to an ankle issue.

The optimism generated from their four-match winning run in the league at the start of 2024 has been extinguished by back-to-back losses to Fulham and Man City.

Last weekend's 3-1 Manchester derby defeat was the latest reminder of the gulf in class between the Red Devils and their local rivals, which has only piled more pressure on Erik ten Hag.

A top four finish now looks out of reach for Man Utd, but if the Dutch coach cannot finish the season strongly, you wonder whether the new regime may look to replace him over the summer.

Everton may be out of the relegation zone after seeing their 10-point deduction cut to six, but their recent form has to be a concern for Sean Dyche - particularly as they could yet face another Premier League punishment before the season is over.

The Toffees have not won in the league since 16th December and lost 3-1 to West Ham last weekend, but will still fancy their chances of going after a Man Utd team that are already wobbling.
